How And Why, You Should Remove Adhesive From Floorboards

Removing adhesive from parquet strips or concrete floors can be very difficult - especially if the adhesive has been there for many years - but it is mandatory to remove it when installing new flooring . When the adhesive dries, it becomes hard and stiff, which can affect the feel and softness of the subfloor. Removing it can be tricky, however, it's a fruitful job that will improve the look of new flooring - whether it's laminate, vinyl flooring or even carpet. Between projects you would want to remove the adhesive layer so you can apply a fresh layer of adhesive for the new project so it can stay in place properly. The thickness of the adhesive layer is one thing, but the total space of the worked area is another. If a simple scraper does nothing, a heavy duty hand scraper can be used which would make the process much faster. Step 2 - Adhesive Softener

If no more adhesive can be removed manually, adhesive softeners can be used. Fabric softeners, such as Sentinel 626, are poured over the adhesive and left to soak for a few hours before removing. When trying out a new fabric softener, you should do a patch test to make sure it works on the adhesive you have. Also, when working on large areas, it may be best to consider working on small areas at a time - the fabric softener may evaporate, which would then be useless. Once the softener has seeped into the adhesive, you can use a broom-like scraper to scrape it off the concrete. Once all of the adhesive has been scraped off, allow the remaining residual fabric softener to evaporate. Once all of these steps have been completed, your concrete floor should be adhesive-free and ready for the application of the new adhesive layer. If there are any cracks and bumps in the concrete floor, you should level them before applying the adhesive, as they will also damage the floor.
